Everything you need to know
De-alcoholisation means that our wines lose a large proportion of their calories along with the alcohol. At the same time, the natural antioxidants and minerals from the grapes are fully preserved. These are said to have a positive effect.
Our wines are gently dealcoholised using vacuum distillation. By reducing the pressure, the boiling point of ethanol drops from approx. 78°C to below 35°C. This and the nebulisation of the wine minimise the thermal stress on the original wine in order to largely preserve the typical wine aromas.
During dealcoholisation, approx. 20-25% of the initial volume is transferred to the distillate. This loss in volume (approx. 12-15% alcohol and 10% water) cannot simply be topped up with water - unlike with beer, for example. Roughly speaking, you get three bottles of non-alcoholic wine from four bottles of wine. Furthermore, the additional product in-process step results in additional costs. Therefore with real calculation a dealcoholised wine is approx. 30% more than a comparable base wine.
Since 2022, the legislator has based wine on the technical processing simplification of dealcoholisation. The result can then be threefold:
- „partially dealcoholised wine“ with an alcoholic strength by volume of more than 0.5% vol.
- „dealcoholised wine, non-alcoholic (<0.5% vol.)“
- „dealcoholised wine“, without further addition if <0.05% vol.
Our products fall into the second category. This nomenclature is comparable to that of „decaffeinated coffee“, which is actually „decaffeinated coffee“. Colloquially, however, „non-alcoholic wine“ is more common.
No. De-alcoholised wine can contain up to 4g of alcohol per litre. This corresponds to 0.5% vol. However, this amount can also be contained in all other non-alcoholic products such as beer, unless they are labelled „0.0“. The alcohol content of our products is a maximum of 0.4% vol. This is mainly the result of sweetening with grape must.
Classification: This alcohol content also corresponds to the alcohol limit of 3g/litre, which is permitted for fruit juices and is often reached there. Other foods such as kefir, sourdough bread, sauerkraut and sweets also contain a small amount of alcohol.
You will find the exact alcohol content in the description of our products.
By removing the alcohol, our wines only contain around 10 to 20 kcal/100ml and are therefore low in calories! Alcohol-free wine can therefore also be drunk during a diet.
The different methods used to dealcoholise the wine result in different taste experiences. Our process is particularly gentle, preserving the flavour and bouquet of our carefully selected original grapes.
Yes, all our products are suitable for a vegan diet.
No. Our alcohol-free wines are based on fully fermented wines from which the alcohol is removed after maturation. They have therefore gone through the same stages of development as a „normal“ wine. Our non-alcoholic wines are a luxury product at the highest level.
